Data alone is insufficient to stay competitive in today's ever–changing marketplace. Health plans must be able to take action by providing new products to the market rapidly, cost-effectively and securely while minimizing risk.

A study by the California HealthCare Foundation1 found that PHR users took more steps to improve their health, and those with chronic conditions experienced more positive benefits from using the PHR. Most PHRs were supplied by their health insurer. For those who were non-users of the PHR, they said they were most interested in using PHRs sponsored by their payers.

In the South Carolina pilot of Healthtrio's PHR by medicare fee–for–service2, participants felt it to be useful and especially liked that the data was auto–populated. Participants liked the idea of being able to manage their health information in one central location.
