HealthTrio™ renews commitment to developing the Individual Health Record (IHR)

Tucson, Ariz. (February 8, 2005) - HealthTrio, the leading provider of e-health applications, today renews its company-wide priority to continue developing the “Individual Health Record (IHR).” Unlike the Personal Health Record (PHR), which allows patients to maintain, clinical information about them and is captured from clinical encounters, the Individual Health Record (IHR) is a comprehensive combination of the Personal Health Record and the Electronic Health Record, with the focus on the individual patient. Since the fall of 2002, HealthTrio has teamed with the St. Louis based Mercy Health Plans in its goals to create a consumer-centered health management program. The Individual Health Record (IHR) technology, in which plan members can evaluate ways to improve their health, has not only resulted in savings to Mercy Health Plans but also assisted members in improving their health. The members, now empowered by the technology, can keep better track of their own health matters. A major feature of the Individual Health Record (IHR) is the “real-time” component. The information in each record is kept up to date through robust, advanced technology developed only by HealthTrio. The component will revolutionize the ability to detect disease, increase patient compliance and develop a framework for best outcomes.

Dr Malik M. Hasan and Pete Peterson have been developing the EHR and IHR since 1986 to enable QualMed Health Plan to manage care. The idea was that important clinical information, which impacts the continuity of care, such as the health problem lists, important tests results, encounters with the health care providers, baseline healthcare data, medication lists and history, were entered manually, and information from the claims data was extracted, resulting in the development of the EHR/IHR. This EHR/IHR was developed and used internally in QualMed for management of care for each of the over one million individual members. The EHR/IHR was also regularly updated. With the advent of the internet and moving this data to an internet platform, the gathering of pertinent data for each member became much easier. Similarly, the internet and the concept of portals allow access to caregivers and members themselves so they can take charge of managing their own care, especially chronic conditions. The EHR/IHR is handled in a very secure environment so as to preserve the privacy of the records.

HealthTrio connect ™ enables health plans, providers, members, employers and brokers to automate inefficient paper-based transactions and eliminate the need for time-consuming telephone calls, thus improving service while saving time and reducing costs.
