Medicare beneficiaries with Original Medicare in South Carolina can authorize DoD to electronically transmit TRICARE health data into their HealthTrio PHR Centennial CO - October 8, 2008 - HealthTrio LLC, a leading health information technology company, announced today that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is collaborating with the U.S. Department of Defense to expand its South Carolina Personal Health Record pilot project called My Personal Health Record, South Carolina (MyPHRSC), powered by the HealthTrio PHR solution. "This exciting pilot expansion will be a major step forward for Medicare and DoD. We believe that collaborations of this sort will provide more complete information and better tools to empower consumers to manage their health," CMS Acting Administrator Kerry Weems said. " We expect this pilot, which brings data together from multiple sources, can be combined successfully to provide the beneficiary with access to more complete personal health records." Under the expanded pilot project, Department of Defense (DoD) beneficiaries who have both Medicare and TRICARE can authorize MyPHRSC to electronically provide TRICARE data to their existing MyPHRSC personal health record (PHR). Initially, active medications will be made available, with the potential for additional data to be made available in the future. "We believe that the CMS pilot could serve as a national model for collaboration between key industry stakeholders to implement patient-centered care and are pleased to provide our PHR technology to drive this paradigm shift," said Dr. Malik Hasan, president and CEO of HealthTrio. "This pilot will further demonstrate the clinical and financial savings that HealthTrio PHR delivers to patients, physicians and to the overall healthcare system." MyPHRSC is a pilot program that enables Medicare beneficiaries with Original Medicare in South Carolina to collect and access information about their health and healthcare services electronically. HealthTrio is a member of the team assembled for the project by Gaithersburg, Maryland-based QSSI, a company that specializes in information technology solution development. The other members are Palmetto GBA, a Medicare contractor serving the region that includes South Carolina, and IBM. About HealthTrio, LLC
